IGD’s 750 series ATEX gas detectors are the next step in fixed gas detection technology.

IGD’s Sentinel+™ 2-Wire protocol uses a 2 core cable for both power and data communications. Not only fewer terminations, Sentinel+™ 2-Wire protocol has no polarity requirement for its connections. Cable terminations are reduced, No polarity requirements means fewer errors and faster installs.

The TOCSIN 102 Thermal Conductivity Gas Detector consist of two matched elements which are used for the detection of gases in 0-100% volume concentrations. The elements operate on the thermal conductivity principle.

The sensing element is open to the atmosphere under test and the reference element is supplied sealed in reference air. The response of the devices is dependent upon the difference between the thermal conductivity of the atmosphere under test and the reference air. When the atmosphere under test has a thermal conductivity higher than the reference air, the sensing element loses more heat to the surroundings than the reference element.

This increased heat loss causes a cooling of the sensing element and subsequent reduction in the resistance of the sensing element compared to the reference element. The thermal conductivity of a gas mixture is dependent on temperature and the individual thermal conductivity of the constituents of the mixture. The temperature of importance is the operating temperature of the sensing element (typically a maximum pf 500 Deg C at the recommended bridge supply voltage). The detector is supplied pre-calibrated for the target gas in question.

Typically this measurement technique is used to monitor binary gas mixtures e.g Helium in Nitrogen. The unit can be operated in either analogue or addressable modes and can be simply calibrated using a multi-meter and known gas concentration

Siting of the detector should also be carefully considered to take into account air flows, site geometry and the characteristics of the target gas.

Based on the IGD MKIII DCP Pellistor, the Tocsin 102 MK3 ATEX Gas Detector provides a linear process 4-20mA  output or addressable output for 0-100% LEL of the target gas. The unit can be calibrated to be targeted for a wide range of flammable gases from our data base. The pellistor (catalytic) sensor used is manufactured by Oliver IGD and enjoys an enviable reputation in the oil, gas and process industries. Oliver IGD’s pellistor (catalytic) detector technology is amongst the best performing available in the world benefiting from long life and extreme poison resistance. The Combined junction box mounted control PCB is simple to set up and calibrate for easy system integration and maintenance allowing single man calibration.

Tocsin 102 Series ATEX gas detectors are available in both legacy analogue 4-20mA types or modern addressable units. There are also detector options for Photo-Ionisation (PID), Infra Red (IR), Electrochemical (EC), Pellistors and Thermal Conductivity (TC). Each detection method has its own merits for effectively detecting different hazardous gas types, IGD can advise the best detector option for your application.

TOCSIN 102 Toxic or Oxygen Gas Detector’s are typically electrochemical detectors. These detectors are highly specific to the target gas to be monitored and provide an effective reliable method of detection. IGD’s Oxygen detector in particular is worth special mention. IGD’s Oxygen detectors are a highly developed solid polymer technology which provide excellent performance and a long operating life far exceeding legacy lead based types. Typical life in service for this type of detector exceeds 5 years providing excellent safety monitoring and saving operating costs. TOCSIN 102 Toxic or Oxygen Gas Detector’s are certified independently to European ATEX requirements for use in zoned hazardous areas. The replaceable detector is manufactured primarily from corrosion resistant 316 grade stainless steel. The supplied junction box has options for either copper free aluminium pressure cast epoxy coated or 316 stainless steel. There is also a marine grade option for additional environmental protection.

The addressable version of the detector will network with all other IGD addressable detectors, I/O nodes,relays and of course control panels. This allows for fast installation whilst minimising costly cabling. The cabling adds nothing to an installation, its a necessary evil to join systems together so using IGD’s addressable systems minimises expense whilst enhancing operation, a win-win.

TOCSIN 102 Infrared Gas Detector utilises the latest technology to provide small format high reliability gas detection in an ATEX package. High Stability is ensured by using dual beam technology with dual detectors for sample and reference channels. Temperature compensation and linearity correction are built in giving a fully linearised output. The basic TOCSIN 102 Infrared Gas Detector is available as a three wire 4-20mA transmitter, with the option for a fully digitally addressable version for use with the latest IGD systems. Detectors are supplied pre-calibrated for the chosen range and target gas.

IGD’s Latest update to the Tocsin 102 family:  Photoionisation Detector for Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) further enhances the products capabilities. Tocsin 102 PID detector has excellent dynamic response now to over 400 gases and vapours. As a fixed gas detector this represents an unparalleled first response capability. PID detector’s offer many advantages for VOC detection over other available technologies. Ranges of measurement are possible from Parts Per Billion (ppb) to high Parts Per Million (ppm) ranges dependant on the gas or vapour being monitored.

When you install a 750 Series Addressable Gas Detector you are installing 100 years of gas detection knowledge. With over 400 hazardous gases and vapours monitored, 750 Series addressable  gas detectors provide a flexible future proof system for your gas detection requirements.

Furthermore IGD’s Sentinel+™ 2-Wire protocol allows the 750 series to communicate over the detector power cables. In addition to this there is no specific polarity for cable connections, meaning  which dramatically speeds up installs and reduces human errors when cabling. This is because you do not have to think about the wiring and terminations.

Any mix of safe area gas detectors or ATEX detectors of any type can be networked together along with I/O cards, illuminated signage, alarms etc.

Notably this reduces cabling speeds install and reduces errors. The installed systems have improved reliability from the reduced number of terminations and from IGD’s continuous monitoring built into the Sentinel+™ protocol. 2-Wire Gas Detection systems continuously monitor gas reading, internal diagnostics and calibrations. Ensuring maximum system availability.

There is then the option to easily add more detectors and accessories where required. Each 750 Series detector has multiple input and output options, as well as being a gas detector. This makes adding signalling or control functions to the system very simple. Cable a beacon sounder to the nearest available detector or add control for a solenoid valve. Not to mention you can control a range of third party devices of one detector node.

Use the additional ports on the detectors to read in other analogue 4-20mA signals, pressure, flow, temperature. If its a 4-20mA signal then you can read it into the detector and then set alarms against it in just the same way as the gas detectors. In addition two controller versions are available with a comprehensive range of interfaces .

TOC-30 Series Safe Area Gas Detector

TOC-30 Series Safe Area Gas Detector’s from IGD are available as both legacy Analogue 4-20mA gas detectors or modern addressable versions. This series of Safe Area Gas Detector’s are manufactured in rugged ABS housings which provide a number of advantages. Sealing is moulded in as part of the housing with detector and electronics in separated compartments. The detector is protected by a unique labyrinth arrangement which provides both dust and splash protection.

Why Choose ABS Housings?

ABS is tough and does not corrode providing a high degree of chemical resistance. The detectors and electronics used in the TOC-30 series fixed gas detection are identical to those used in our Tocsin 102 ATEX detectors. The only difference is the housing material, if you don’t need a zoned area ATEX detector then we don’t expect you to pay for one. Safe Area Gas Detector’s cover applications that are not zoned ATEX areas. What we do ensure is that the detection quality is identical, they are after all doing the same job. The housing is designed to wall mount with conduit knock outs pre-moulded. Alternately TOC-30 series detector’s housing can mounted to Dado trunking or be flush wall mounted as they are a standard 2-gang mount.

TOC-30 Series detectors are available in a range of gas types:

Tocsin 103 Industrial Gas Detector are designed for cost effective safe area gas detection solutions. They incorporate micro processor technology to give a stable 4-20mA process signal output. The addressable option allows extensive reductions in cost of installation through material and labour savings. The in built processor can be used to pre-calibrate the sensors prior to installation. Alternatively calibration can be achieved on site via the Oliver IGD control panel or locally using a handheld PC device or laptop. A range of sensing technologies can be incorporated into the housing to provide the most appropriate detection method. When our customer base contacted us for a similar quality flammable gas detector for domestic applications, IGD’s technical team rose to the challenge. Flammable gas detectors for the domestic market are typically low cost and built to a tight budget. IGD approached the product using a different perspective, how can we employ the latest technology to get the very best performance and still off excellent value for money. TOC-10 boasts impressive features for this class of product, all driven by client request:

  • Same quality detection as our industrial detector range, TOC-10 uses IGD pellister technology rather than cheap poorly performing semi-conductors
  • Splash proof, TOC-10 has a unique labyrinth arrangement to protect from dust, dirt and liquids
  • Sealed housing, TOC-10 separates the sensor housing from its electronics stopping flammable gas ingress, its also IP rated
  • Control Relays, TOC-10 has relay outputs capable of controlling gas solenoids or other control devices
